Digital Accessibility update: Federal timeline extended and more information to come
On April 20, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice issued an interim final rule extending the compliance deadline for the Americans with Disabilities Act’s digital accessibility rule.
The university is reviewing the interim final rule and assessing its implications for UW–Madison’s digital accessibility efforts. Clear guidance will be shared soon following consultation with the Office of Legal Affairs and the Office of Compliance.
While this represents a potential timeline change, it does not change our commitment to digital accessibility or the importance of this work. It is an expected part of how we create, procure, and maintain digital tools and content.
Please continue the work of building an accessible and inclusive digital ecosystem.
