Your Role Matters: Share the 10 Digital Accessibility Fundamentals
As you may be aware, the U.S. Department of Justice extended the compliance deadline for the Americans with Disabilities Act’s digital accessibility rule to April 2027. While the timeline has shifted, our commitment has not. We remain focused on supporting the student experience and advancing equity and inclusion as we enter this next chapter of creating more seamlessly accessible digital content.
As communicators, you play a critical role in shaping understanding and normalizing accessible practices across the university. Your work keeps accessibility practical, achievable and embedded in how we communicate every day, helping sustain the momentum we have worked hard to build.
We need your support
We need your support with building greater university-wide awareness and adoption of the digital accessibility fundamentals.
To support your efforts, we have created a Digital Accessibility Fundamentals Toolkit intended to help you share information in ways that make sense for your audiences, timelines, and platforms, while reinforcing consistent university‑wide messaging.
Here’s how you can take action now
- Beginning immediately, share digital accessibility fundamentals through your unit’s existing communications channels.
- Use toolkit content as‑is or adapt it to fit your audience and format.
- Help reinforce that progress matters and no one is expected to be an expert overnight.
- Model accessible communication practices in your own work.
What’s next
The University Digital Accessibility Initiative is an iterative, long‑term effort. You can continue to expect clear communications, practical guidance, and new resources as the work evolves. Thank you for helping build awareness, confidence, and momentum across the university as we move forward together.
